An insulation felt is a dense, flexible nonwoven layer installed inside a building element to reduce the passage of sound and heat. Its fibrous structure absorbs sound energy and traps still air, which slows the transfer of heat through the construction.

Airborne sound – voices, music or a television – reaches the next room by setting walls, ceilings and floors vibrating. A felt layer within a wall cavity, ceiling void or subfloor build-up damps that vibration, improving privacy and comfort between rooms, while the same layer contributes to thermal comfort. Because the felt is flexible, it can be fitted into cavities and floor build-ups of different shapes during construction or renovation.
